The Royal Society Of Miniature Painters Annual Exhibition
The Mall Galleries, London
Sept 20 - Oct 1

2016 was a very busy and successful year culminating in my receiving the Anita Emmerich Presentation Award at the RMS Annual Exhibition.

Chris Beetles Gallery staged an exhibition at the National Trust property, Nunnington Hall in Yorkshire in October entitled ‘Nine Lives – The Best of Cat Art’.
Two of my paintings were on display amongst the illustrious company of works by Simon Bond, of ‘Simon’s Cat’ fame, Norman Thelwell, Lesley Fotherby, Lesley Anne Ivory, Kathleen Hale, who created the delightful Orlando the Marmalade Cat books and the remarkable Louis Wain.
I was very pleased to learn that both of my paintings sold.

The illustrations for the third Kit the Mouse book by Barry Thornton are now finished and publication is due shortly.
The first book in the series, A Midsummer Mouse, is selling very well and has gone into a second edition.
Barry has also asked me to produce a series of paintings featuring exotic animals – lions, tigers, leopards etc – for their ‘Illyria’ range which feature works inspired by literature. These will be larger paintings in watercolour on paper, and I am starting to research classic poetry and literary references to these creatures.

For my own pleasure and to make a change from fiddling about with tiny brushes all day, I have been writing a few short stories. I’m having great fun with them and am rather surprised by some of the directions they are taking me in. I’m not sure if this is all going to go anywhere, but I am enjoying the creative change of direction, meanwhile, it’s time to give some serious thought to new paintings for the new year ...
